Baker: US Oil Rig Count Highest since Week Ended May 14 OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) --- The number of rigs in the United States actively drilling for oil increased for the first time in five weeks, rising by five to 488 as of today, a 13-week high, according to the latest Baker Hughes data. Versus the same week in 2023, the number of oil rigs is down 27. Baker reports the number of U.S. natural gas rigs in operation increased by three to 97, 24 fewer than a year ago. In Canada, Baker Hughes data show the number of oil rigs in operation declined by two to 150 while the natural gas count held steady at 67 as of today.
