CEC: California CARB Diesel Stocks Tumble 20%
TACOMA, WA (DTN) -- California production of ultra-low sulfur diesel (CARB
diesel) declined last week while inventories dropped sharply across the state,
led by steep drawdowns in both Northern and Southern California, according to
the California Energy Commission's Weekly Fuels Report for the week ending
April 4.
CARB diesel production dipped 48,000 bbl to 471,000 bbl statewide, last
week. Output fell sharply in Northern California, in the week ending April 4,
down 391,000 bbl to just 76,000 bbl, while Southern California refineries
increased production by 33,000 bbl to 395,000 bbl, partially offsetting the
northern drop.
Statewide CARB diesel stocks dropped 414,000 bbl, or 20.1% in the week
profiled to 1.211 million bbl.
In Northern California, inventories declined 146,000 bbl to 691,000 bbl, in
the week ending April 4 while Southern California stocks plummeted by 268,000
bbl to 520,000 bbl in the same period, according to the CEC.
Meanwhile, production of other diesel fuels, including EPA-compliant ULSD,
surged 224,000 bbl last week to 1.023 million bbl statewide--driven largely by
gains in both the northern and southern regions. Stocks of other diesel fuels
rose 398,000 bbl to 1.715 million bbl.
Despite the rebound in non-CARB diesel, total CARB diesel inventories remain
well below seasonal averages, down 15.6% from the same week a year ago.
